Harmony School of Innovation is proud to announce that it has received a prestigious College Success Award from GreatSchools.org.
Launched in 2018, the College Success Award honors schools that excel in ensuring students prepare for college, enroll in college, and succeed once they get there. This year, Harmony School of Innovation is among 2,158 award-winning schools from 29 states who have demonstrated a successful track record of graduating students who later enroll in two- or four-year college, are ready for college-level coursework, and persist on to their second year, according to available data from each state.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten the physical and financial health of the nation, Harmony School of Innovation is ensuring students graduate with the skills and resources to succeed as postsecondary scholars and productive citizens. College- and career-ready graduates are critical to fueling the U.S. economy, as 70 percent of jobs will require a postsecondary degree by 2027.
Despite the unprecedented disruptions to the educational landscape this year, Harmony School of Innovation has adopted and upheld many best practices to support their students’ college preparation and success, including providing access to rigorous academic offerings both within school and through extracurricular programs.
“We applaud Harmony School of Innovation for prioritizing high-quality public education, putting students on the path to bright futures,” said Jon Deane, CEO of GreatSchools.org. “Over the past year, students, parents, teachers, and communities have relied on one another like never before. We congratulate and thank all of these individuals at Harmony Science Academy for their unwavering pursuit of college success for all students.”

Dear Harmony Parents and Guardians,

At Harmony Public Schools, providing our students and staff a safe and academically-focused learning environment is our highest priority.

As you are likely aware, COVID-19 continues to remain a strong and steady presence in our El Paso community. Earlier today, the City of El Paso announced that the number of active cases in our city has reached an all-time high following a steady upward trend throughout last week.  Therefore, due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in El Paso, and based upon recommendations from the City of El Paso Department of Public Health, we have requested a waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) allowing an extension of remote-only learning until Wednesday, October 28th, with a phased in return to campus.  Therefore, campuses will not fully re-open on Tuesday, October 13th as previously stated.

The phase-in plan to allow students to safely return to campus is listed below.  Please note: campuses will inform parents regarding which grade levels will be allowed to return in each phase.

October 28– 25% of students (K-2) that selected In-Person Learning will return to campus

November 2– 50% of students (K-5) that selected In-Person Learning will return to campus

November 4– 75% of students (K-8) that selected In-Person Learning will return to campus

November 6– 100% of students (K-12) that selected In-Person Learning will return to campus

While our campuses won’t be fully re-opened until this date, we still have limited availability at each of our four campus learning centers.  As a reminder, the learning centers, are a supervised “study hall” like setting where students complete their daily classwork remotely from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If interested, please contact your campus for learning center availability.

Thank you for your continued support during these unprecedented times, and for helping keep our students safe and focused on learning. We will continue to keep you updated as new developments take place.

Sincerely,

Harmony Public Schools – El Paso

Sinceramente,

Escuelas Públicas Harmony – El Paso

Helpful Guides

What have you been doing to pass the time during quarantine?

I have been engaging in a healthier lifestyle by working out and eating healthier. However, I have also kept in touch with my friends and binge watched many different Netflix shows.

What are you doing to make the best out of your senior year?

I am always keeping in contact with my friends so we don’t lose touch with each other, and keeping myself more disciplined to study and finish the year strong.

How are you staying in touch with your classmates?

I am staying in touch with my classmates through texting and face-timing each other constantly, whether to just hang out or to help each other with homework.

How has virtual learning changed the way you study?

Virtual learning has changed the way I study by having me study right after school ends as opposed to waiting a few hours to start my homework. Also, I can study throughout the day, especially during lunch, when we have a break.

How have you prepared for the challenges you are facing this school year?

I have prepared for the challenges I am facing this year mainly by leaning on my friends and family for any support that I need, and by keeping myself more organized at home so I don’t struggle with any school work.

Describe your workplace at home.

My workplace at home consists of a quiet area for me to focus with minimal distraction, a desk for me to do my school work, and a chair comfortable enough for me to withstand throughout the day.

What song has kept you motivated throughout quarantine? Why?

The song that has kept me motivated throughout quarantine is Only Angel by Harry Styles mainly because it’s a very upbeat song, and I usually need energetic songs to stimulate my working process.

What are your hopes for after you graduate from high school?

After I graduate from high school, I hope to attend college and study biology to pursue a career in Dermatology.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

Some advice I would give to upcoming freshman is to never give yourself an excuse to start slacking on schoolwork, because your grades will always matter. Also, don’t be afraid to join clubs and different sports if given the opportunity, especially if you’re interested in them, because you will very quickly regret not doing so.

What are your top three university choices?

The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Tech, and UTEP.

Good day, Harmony Family!

Having your children return to campus for in-person learning is a big decision and Harmony School of Innovation needs to know your preference. This is a friendly reminder that there is a survey titled “Instruction Re-Selection Form” located in Skyward (Family Access) that needs to be filled out by the parent or Guardian of every HSI student. The current survey is in regards to your child returning to in-person learning when teachers are present at the campus. Please be sure to click “submit form” after filling out the survey.

If you have already filled out this survey, your preference has been recorded and there is no further action required – unless your preference changes. You may change your preference at any time by resubmitting the survey.

If you have not submitted your preference using the Skyward survey, be sure to do so promptly.

Thank you,

Gracias,

(TEXAS) – On the eve of National Principals Month, the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $27.8 million Teacher and School Leader Incentive grant to Harmony Public Schools to train, equip, and retain top-level school leaders at its campuses across the state.

This project will strengthen and evolve Harmony’s existing Human Capital Management System, developed through a previous Department of Education grant project (Teacher Incentive Fund, 2016), to more explicitly focus on strengthening instructional leadership by better positioning and supporting current and rising principals and instructional leadership teams to excel and remain in their roles—especially in high-need schools. Harmony has 50 schools designated as high-needs throughout the state.

The project design draws on proven research showing that strong instructional leadership improves educator effectiveness, which, in turn, accelerates growth in student outcomes.

“Great schools require great leadership,” said Harmony CEO Fatih Ay. “That’s why one of our highest priorities at Harmony Public Schools is to equip our principals and other school leaders with the tools they need to build cultures of achievement, character, and community at their campuses.”

Harmony was one of only 13 school systems in the country to receive the DOE grant and the largest of three Texas recipients.

“Great teachers deserve to be treated as the professionals they are and to be compensated accordingly,” U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said in a statement Wednesday, September 1. “All too often, though, they lack access to relevant professional development courses and are compensated on a step-scale ladder that treats them like cogs in a machine instead of as individuals with unique talents and interests. We’ve challenged today’s awardees to rethink all of that, and they have risen to the challenge.”

The new funding brings the total amount awarded to Harmony by the Department of Education within the past few years to $92.5 million.

  • In 2012, the DOE awarded Harmony a $30 million Race to the Top grant to support locally developed plans to personalize and deepen student learning, directly improve student achievement and educator effectiveness, close achievement gaps, and prepare every student to succeed in college and their careers.
  • In 2016, the DOE awarded Harmony a $26.7 million Teacher Incentive Fund grant to develop a merit-based system for rewarding its highest-performing teachers. (The system, known as H-STEP, was foundational in Harmony being named to the Texas Education Agency’s inaugural class of Teacher Incentive Allotment districts in Fall 2020.)
  • In 2018, the DOE awarded Harmony an $8 million Education Innovation Research grant to  build upon Harmony’s project-based learning STEM model for Grade 6-12 students by introducing similar curricula to students in Grade K-5, and by creating a system of support and professional development for elementary school teachers.

“Great principals and school leaders, given their unique talents and devotion to their teachers and students, should receive the support they need to continue to be successful,” said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education for Elementary and Secondary Education Frank Brogan. “Under the Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program, the U.S. Department of Education provides assistance to school districts that are rethinking how to strengthen instructional leadership to make sure principals and leadership teams are well equipped to support their teachers and students. I look forward to seeing how the grant funds are utilized by Harmony Public Schools.”

Harmony Public Schools is a Texas-born, Texas-wide public charter school system with campuses serving PreK-Grade 12 students in 23 cities across the state, including Greater Houston, DFW, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, Waco, Lubbock, Odessa, Bryan, Beaumont, and the Rio Grande Valley. Harmony’s curriculum places a heavy focus on STEM skills, Character Education, project-based learning, and college readiness. In 2020, Harmony hadall 23 high school campuses named among the Best High Schools in America by U.S. News and World Report, 13 named to the Best STEM High Schools in America by Newsweek, and earned two National School of Character recognitions from Character.org.

Harmony Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year for both students and team members.
